Top Platzierungen zum Saisonende
Bei verschiedenen Mountainbike Marathon Rennen am vergangenen Wochenende konnten die Sportler des Team CENTURION VAUDE zum Saisonende hin nochmals mit guten Platzierungen aufwarten. Traditionell ist die Alb-Gold Trophy das letzte große deutsche Rennen im Saisonkalender, zeitgleich stand noch der UCI World Series Marathon im französischen Ornans auf dem Programm.
Auf der Alb versuchte Markus Kaufmann an seine Siegesserie dort anzuknüpfen, gewann er doch schon etliche Male den Auftakt im Frühjahr und auch die Trophy am Ende der Saison. Bei bestem Herbstwetter ging es auf die schnelle Strecke und schnell war er zusammen mit dem Texpa-Simplon Duo Uwe Hardter und Matthias Alberti in Führung. Während Hardter aus der Entscheidung flog, ging man die letzten Kilometer zu zweit Richtung Ziel. Etwas fehlte Kaufmann dann doch die Frische, die Trans Costa Rica und die Heimreise steckten noch in den Knochen. Im knappen Zielsprint hieß es somit nach 88 Kilometer Rang zwei für den Meckenbeurer, welcher sich somit auf dem Podest in die Saisonpause verabschiedet. Ebenfalls mit einem Podestplatz auf Rang drei, beendete in der Klasse der Damen Gaby Stanger eines ihrer letzten Rennen.
Ebenfalls am letzten Wochenende starteten in Frankreich Jochen Käß und Daniel Geismayr beim Marathon der UCI World Series in Ornans und verkauften sich dabei gut. Vor allem die schweizer Konkurrenz machte die technisch fordernde Strecke, mit einem ständigen auf und ab, nicht leicht. Während Geismayr erst Teil der vierköpfigen Spitzengruppe war, musste er diese zur Rennmitte kurz ziehen lassen und bildete nur wenige Sekunden dahinter mit Käß die Verfolgung. Alsbald zersplitterte auch die Gruppe vorn und während Gaismayr den Anschluss zu Rang zwei wieder herstellen konnte, verlor Käß durch einen kleinen Sturz kurzzeitig den Rhythmus. Während vorne Urs Huber (Team Bulls) einen sicheren Sieg einfahren konnte, fuhr CENTURION VAUDE Profi Geismayr mit Hubers BULLS-Teamkollegen Simon Stiebjahn dahinter um Rang zwei. Gemeinsam ging es auch auf die Ziellinie wo Gaismayr am Ende das Rad um wenige Zentimeter vorne hatte. Mit Platz fünf ergänzte Käß ein Top Teamergebnis. Beide Sportler machten sich umgehend nach dem Marathon auf den weiteren Weg zum Bike Festival Roc dÁzur, wo Freitag und Mittwoch weitere UCI Rennen auf dem Programm stehen.

The Story
OK, it’s the most famous glacier in the world. You can’t expect solitude here; every fifteen minutes a busload of tourists is released in the direction of the viewing platforms. And yet the sight of the Perito Moreno Glacier in Patagonia with its 4-km wide and 60 m high escarpment has something touching, something incomprehensible about it. It is a natural spectacle that takes your breath away and that instinctively describes the relationship between man and nature. Humility and tranquil joy of existence seizes every viewer.
The Photographer
Ralf Gantzhorn was born in 1964, holds a M.S. in Geology – and has even worked as a geologist (as an independent consultant in the contamination sector). He has been climbing since 1983 and working as a photographer since 1985. As a northern German, he is always torn between the far too distant mountains and the fresh sea air, but he’s found a compromise in Scandinavia, Scotland and Patagonia (where he has now spent over three years). He enjoys organizing trips in areas where unfamiliar vistas – which haven’t already been photographed 1000 times – lure from every corner. He often experiences his images as far too static, but then is pleased with the abundance of triangles in the structure and the fantastic light.

The picture was taken on the summit of Marmolada after an ascent of the Vinatzer/Messner on the south wall. We didn’t reach the summit until 10:00 p.m. so we bivouacke (planned) there. We woke up to this riot of color …
