Zwei Mal Top Ten bei der Deutschen MTB Marathon Meisterschaft
Im Fokus des ersten September-Wochenendes standen die Deutschen MTB Marathon Meisterschaften, welche am Samstag in Daun in der Vulkan-Eifel stattfanden. Über die 100 Kilometer lange Strecke wurden die neuen Deutschen Meister gekrönt. In den CENTURION VAUDE Teamfarben waren es Steffi Dohrn, Vinzent Dorn und Julian Scheinert, die im Kampf um die Meisterwürden mitmischten.
Als erstes wurden die Herren auf die Rennstrecke geschickt. Hier hatten wir mit Vinzent Dorn und Julian Scheinert unsere beiden YoungGuns am Start. Jochen Käß, der bei normalerweise ein heißer Favorit für dieses Rennen gewesen wäre, musste leider aus gesundheitlichen Gründen auf einen Start an der Deutschen Meisterschaft verzichten. Auf der, durch ein ständiges Auf und Ab geprägten Rennstrecke ohne nennenswerte, selektive Anstiege zeigte sich vom Start weg ein sehr taktisches und hektisches Rennen mit hohem Tempo und zahlreichen Attacken. Bis zur zweiten Feedzone konnten sich unsere beide Sportler in der großen Spitzengruppe behaupten. Während Julian dann ein bisschen reißen lassen musste, konterte Vinzent souverän sämtlichen Zwischensprints und etablierte sich unter den Top Ten. Im Ziel erreichte er einen hervorragenden siebten Platz mit gerade einmal 40 Sekunden Rückstand auf den neuen Deutschen Meister Sascha Weber. Julian -unser Jüngster im Team – folgte ihm nur wenige Minuten später auf Rang 31 und zieht ebenfalls ein sehr positives Fazit aus seiner ersten Deutschen Meisterschaft: „Für meine erste DM bin ich überglücklich mit dem Ergebnis und vor allem freut mich, dass ich zum Ende hin immer schneller werden konnte!
Im Rennen der die Damen zeigte sich zunächst ein recht ähnliches Bild. Stefanie Dohrn war nach überstandenem Infekt wieder fit und zählte zum erweiterten Favoritenkreis. Vom Start weg bildete sich zunächst eine relative große Führungsgruppe, welche sich im Rennverlauf peu à peu reduzierte – mit dabei immer Steffi Dohrn. Bis kurz vor dem Ziel war die Gruppe, aus welcher die spätere Deutsche Meisterin Janine Schneider hervorgehen sollte, auf vier Fahrerinnen geschrumpft und es kam zu einem knappen Finish. „Am Ende hat mir leider der entscheidende Punch gefehlt, um eine Medaille zu holen“, resümiert die Viertplatzierte, der nur eine Minute auf die Bronzemedaillengewinnerin und Olympisaiegerin von 2008 – Sabine Spitz – fehlte, zufrieden im Ziel.

The Story
OK, it’s the most famous glacier in the world. You can’t expect solitude here; every fifteen minutes a busload of tourists is released in the direction of the viewing platforms. And yet the sight of the Perito Moreno Glacier in Patagonia with its 4-km wide and 60 m high escarpment has something touching, something incomprehensible about it. It is a natural spectacle that takes your breath away and that instinctively describes the relationship between man and nature. Humility and tranquil joy of existence seizes every viewer.

Ralf Gantzhorn was born in 1964, holds a M.S. in Geology – and has even worked as a geologist (as an independent consultant in the contamination sector). He has been climbing since 1983 and working as a photographer since 1985. As a northern German, he is always torn between the far too distant mountains and the fresh sea air, but he’s found a compromise in Scandinavia, Scotland and Patagonia (where he has now spent over three years). He enjoys organizing trips in areas where unfamiliar vistas – which haven’t already been photographed 1000 times – lure from every corner. He often experiences his images as far too static, but then is pleased with the abundance of triangles in the structure and the fantastic light.

The picture was taken on the summit of Marmolada after an ascent of the Vinatzer/Messner on the south wall. We didn’t reach the summit until 10:00 p.m. so we bivouacke (planned) there. We woke up to this riot of color …
